Frenzy

Its been a frenzied, somewhat misfortune tinged and a little surreal 24hrs. Was at MOS - our acronym for the Ministry Of Sound last nite with vet, mari, and penni. I actually had 5 shots before going over and was nice and high (heh sounds corny!). The music was wad we expected from MOS - namely good stuff! Heh but dun speak too soon. Vet got dizzy and puked, they started playing trance and house music near the end, i lost my 'high' after about 1 hr ... sigh. Heh but one good thing was the FREE (yes capitalized ... I am a Singaporean after all!) LOW CARB (yuck ... but its food wad the hell) KIT KAT (yay!) they gave out as we were leaving the place. Just counted it ... I took a total of 13 bars! hehe the rest took just as many or more! Well got home at ard 4 and was totally washed out ... ate a banana and b4 i knew it ... was sound asleep. The next light I saw was the sun piercing my lids at 1045 (i.e. class missed, bf missed) so wad the hell I continued sleeping till 1345! One sidetrack: all this over sleeping is very irritating ... I'm getting a little behind in my work and missing some lectures and having to rush ard! Gotta buck up! Anyway I finished my econs and had to rushed off to fix a little errand b4 running off to school to hand the assignments up.
Next thing I knew ... I was adrenaline charged again ... poor vet had her finger squished in a door and had to rush her to UCH. We waited quite a long while (whilst during some time during the ordeal I lost my scarf!!!) b4 a doctor saw us and a longer while b4 they diagnosed and dressed her wound. Its not over ... have to make another visit to stitch the wound tmr! Sheesh! Yet I have to comment that they were all pretty competent and VERY nice. One younger doctor especially continually talking, reassuring, chatting - basically being not only a good doctor but a caring one. Its the trade-off I guess Singapore makes. Efficiency is traded for that nice personal touch. Got back at ard 915 where good old buddy Sherwayn was whipping up dinner with Yirong and Hui Fen. Despite the ordeal it was in some ways nice to have hot food and good frens at your table, sharing jokes and banter.
Now another adventure begins ... I am off to Arrhus, Denmark where forecasted temp is -5 to -4! Haha!
P.S. enjoy too and take care!

Dancing Queens in a Frosted City!

SNOW! I noe everyone is toking abt it but I just have to say smth!!! Cos like most Singaporeans who are typically deprived of this experience, I was so excited today! It snowed about 6-7 times! The first time I was in the gym and looking out the window so fluffy white puffs! Vet and I rushed out in our gym attire ... but by the time we got out ... it was all open skies and not a flake to be found! Heh later on it snowed several times but it was all really light and I didn't manage to get any nics pics! Heh it was only till late at night, on our way home that Sherwayn and I experienced a nice thick snowfall! Yay! I have this picture of a car that was completely frosted over with snow! Arghh ... I really wanna ski!
But apart from the excitement caused by the snow ... tonight was the Modern Dance Society's Murder On The Dance Floor charity show! Vet, Penny, Zhijia and Fen were all performing! Congrats on a great show girls! Know all of you have put in LOTS of work for this! Also many of us turned out in force to support and all in all it was very entertaining. Except for this slightly disturbing erm how do we say ... transgender performance? But it was thought provoking.
Haven't posted any songs for awhile but this one reverberates on and on in my mind! Very catchy and ... I like the words ...

Boy Meets Girl - Waiting for a Star to Fall

I hear your name whispered on the wind
It's a sound that makes me cry
I hear a song blow again and again
Through my mind and I don't know why
I wish I didn't feel so strong about you
Like happiness and love revolve around you

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
So many people love you baby
That must be what you are

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

I've learned to feel what I cannot see
But with you I lose that vision
I don't know how to dream your dream
So I'm all caught up in superstition
I want to reach out and pull you to me
Who says I should let a wild one go free

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
But I can't love you this much baby
And love you from this far

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah
Waiting (however long...)
I don't like waiting (I'll wait for you...)
It's so hard waiting (don't be too long...)
Seems like waiting (makes me love you even more...)

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That's where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

Life's Little Surprises!

Yesterday was one long day! Cooked dinner, CU (with only Passfield and Holborn represented by the Singaporeans), and a three-inch pizza, more food and celebration at Sam's birthday! I think Sam was quite touched by the entire experience that so many people turned up. It was a surprise party planned by Wee Yang (both of em exceedingly nice in my opinion!) and like over 20 peeps attended. There was this delicious tiramisu baked by the Carr Saunders girls, a sumptous chocolate cake, syrup from Melissa ... I think Sam was a little overwhelmed - just see the fotos! Its always nice when people remember ur birthday ... not that birthdays are that significant in my view but the thot that people remember and even wish you all the best makes u feel so much better! Many times in our lives it is not the grand events or gigantic parties but the smallest thots and little instances in life that make it so beautiful. Oh there I go getting philosphical again!
Sad to report that I slept in the afternoon again! But have promised myself one week of break anyway ... just hope that I can regain some momentum next week wad with our trip tp Denmark and all. Heh I spoke to my Econs teacher about missing class next week ... told him we were going to Arrhus, Denmark and he said I was nuts to go at this time of the year! Haha. We probably are but hey one must try everything in life, no? Heh we are so unprepared this time! Sherwayn and I have decided that booking a hostel would be unneccessary since not many people are sane enuf to travel to Arrhus this time of the year! Hope that gamble pays off ... otherwise .... 3 miserable people sleepin on the beach, freezin their butts, noses and ears off! Rather excited about it actually!
*Smiles* life is good!

Pleasures of Life ...

Ahhh ... I am so bloody full! Sherwayn and I had a Passfield cookout today ... at Holborn! Haha. Ong (Weiying) was away in Barcelona and we had her keys so with her express permission we decided to make use of her flat's cooking facilities! We had pasta (with our very own pasta sauce) ... and of cos more smoothie. Between us ... ever since I got hold of the smoothie receipe Sherwayn and I must have consumed smth like 6-7 litres of ice cream! And as typical slackers do, after lunch, I watched anime and Sherwayn fell asleep! Ah ... these few weeks have been so hectic that today's slacking has made me realize just how wonderful it is to just laze around, not caring if I made a complete waste of my time! Hail all slackers!
Yep and Monday's outing was pretty good too. I think we enjoyed ourselves which is always the most important thing! Thankful for not only the company but the belt too! Wun have to walk around with my pants on the verge of falling off now!
Feeling drowsy now ... gonna slack off this one hour and a half b4 reality sinks in and I have to get back to work! Au Revoir!

Hail Hail Hail!

Yay I've seen hail for the first time in my life! Yes I noe it sounds pathetic that I am so excited but heh its a novelty for us Equatorial people eh? Well Saturday was the day of the Hyde Park Relays organised by Imperial College. We, and London in all its dreary and somewhat dismal glory was host to teams from all over Europe! Eh anyway before I get to the race bit lemme tell u smth abt London's unusual weather. Right when I left the house it was rainy. Waiting for the race to begin, it was all sunny not a cloud! But when the race started (hehe Lawrence's leg) it began to rain pretty cold and heavily. However during my leg the rain let up hehe. Meanwhile it was windy and freezin all the while! During our next leg, Lawrence (for all his luck is worth) encountered the hail during the his run again whilst I experienced clear skies once more! Heh mebbe my luck is staring to gimme a break!
Well my runs were not fantastic cos seriously I was too cold. The first run, I didn't get heat into my legs till more than half way through the course (a rather scenic one ard the park actually). The second one although I was nice and warmed up, my legs were already a little tired and splinted from the first. Running here is really a trade-off between the lower exhaustion rate (than humid Singapore) vs. the perenially cold and stunted muscles.
But I ended the day in high fashion, at Uncle Kenny's place ... away from the cold, away from my HW (e.g. my bloody essay which I am trying to write now) but with family! There's always something warm about being with family even when u dun talk but just being in their presence. But we did talk and as usual Uncle Kenny's cooking was sedap! Curry chicken, some wierd stingray thingy and more! Heh went to bed at 1030, the first early night in awhile and woke up the next morning afresh! Well I wasn't sleepy in the EEC sermon so thats a sign!
Good message today abt forgiveness and love. Basically to receive God's love we must love our fellow men just as much. I mean I dun really hold grudges but once in awhile u do feel the slight irritation at people and I guess even that is not good cos not letting it off completely and quickly lets it simmer long and drawn out till it festers. Eh I was trying to be poetic just long-winded. Well God is good, life is good what more can one hope for (other than less HW hehe). Looking forward to tmr!

LSE's Biggest CNY Potluck

Yes folks I have just experienced LSE's biggest CNY potluck and cookout! (At least I think it was!) Many, many, many of us Singaporeans and Malaysians (at last count 26) and one half-Korean, half-Chinese Hongkonger in the person of Hailey gathered at Bankside Hall (for those of you back home this hall is the farthest away from LSE but the biggest and with the most kitchens). Yvette and I contributed Beef Rendang to the feast (hehe it was a real instant mix, just add meat, even water is not needed!). All in all I figured there were 15 over dishes maybe as many as 20! Let me descibe some. First of all there was Sam's masterful Or Lua, Jian Loong's homemade Tang Yuan, Ben's excellent Bak Kut Teh and Chic Kut Teh (hehe), marvelous oatmeal and raisin cookies, curry chicken with potatoes, Jon's painstaking, 4 hr odeal fried rice, Zhijia's braised chicken, Cass's shitake mushroom with brocoli, longan and nata de coco jelly, Wee Yang's delicious Sweet and Sour Pork and MANY MORE! Heaven! We arrived at aound 1800 but had to wait till around 2030 to eat cos stoves and pots were limited and everyone had to take turns ... poor Yirong had to wait more than 45 min for her turn! It was really a taste of home away from home and although the SingSoc dinner on Sat was really good I actually prefered this one because it was home made, done with sweat and labor (and many instant mixes!) and less formal making it easier to chat, make a ruckus - all the stuff that Singaporeans and Malaysians generally do at CNY celebrations! Of course to top it off we played cards! Yup for some reason or another Justin's Luck chose today to make its return and I lost roughly 75% of all the games I played! Hopefully this is NOT a bad omen for the Year of the Rooster! Its events like this that really bring people together. Although we are all friends of circumstances and not of choice it doesn't always have to remain that way ... at the end of these three years most friendships built here will last a lifetime - of this I am sure.
Looking forward to Saturday's dinner with Uncle Kenny where there will be even more fantastic food! Yeap Uncle Kenny is a great cook and dinners with him never cease to amaze me! I also called home to speak to Dad and wish him a Happy CNY! Somehow CNY makes me miss my family even more because dis was one of the few times every year where the family would gather in strength to celebrate, (grab ang pau hehe) and make merry generally. Ah well I can't complain in some ways I already have the best of both worlds!

What U Should NOT do ...

It shoudn't have happened. Sometimes we do and say things we should not ...

In times of worry, Thank You Lord once again for giving me peace and showing that if I believe, things will always turn right in the end.

Vulnerable by Roxette

Everywhere I look I see her smile
Her absent-minded eyes
And she has kept me wondering for so long
How this thing could go wrong.

It seems to me that we are both the same
Playing the same game
But as darkness falls this true love falls apart
Into a riddle of her heart.

She's so vulnerable, like china in my hands
She's so vulnerable and I don't understand
I could never hurt the one I love
She's all I've got
But she's so vulnerable
Oh so vulnerable.

Days like these no one should be alone
No heart should hide away
Her touch is gently conquering my mind
There's nothing words can say.

She's coloured all the secrets of my soul
I've whispered all my dreams
But just as nighttime falls this vision falls apart
Into a riddle of her heart, yea.

She's so vulnerable, like china in my hands
She's so vulnerable and I don't understand
I could never hurt someone I love
She's all I've got
But she's so vulnerable
Oh so vulnerable.

Don't hide your eyes...

someone I love ...

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Had my first run with the running club guys this Wednesday. Finally started regular runs after my disastrous injury in December (yes Jon ... thanx!) and its been invigorating so far! The semi-competitive nature of the team, friendly chats and jokes we make along the way all remind me of X-Country training back home o so many years ago. Still in shape surprisingly ... Must say I have been gifted with good running genes and metabolism if nothing else haha.
Been keepin up to date with my work and preparations (mostly!) but have been sleeping later as well. Just last nite after studying, I joined Weiying and Sherwayn and BB at mahjong! (I just learnt it not too long ago) We played all the way till near four and I ended up 1.8pds poorer and Sherwayn was richer as usual. (Some guys have ALL the luck!)
We are gonna have the SingSoc reunion dinner tmr, (making what Andrew calls "pirated" yu sheng for the dinner), a reunion dinner with some of the other Year Ones on tue and finally one on sat with Uncle Kenny. Ahhhh ... its gonna be a good week. Its gonna be a bit sad celebrating CNY without my buddies back home (remember how we go mutual visiting??? haha) and without my family but at least it is a celebration of sorts with companionship amongst frens and people of like mind.
Sadly I am losing touch with the ongoings back home. Sighz ... it was inevitable I guess. But its a good thing this is not true for all ... you guys noe who u are.
To everyone back home ... Happy New Year!

Justin Believes ...

Justin's feeling conflicting emotions now. A certain worry was absolved and everything is alright now he believes (he thinks) yet there are so many different factors/ signs that sometimes he gets all confused and bemused at the entire situation. Yet he praises God for again showing the way and that sometimes one must trust to the Creator, not everything can be done by us. This reminds him that he has been derelict in his bible reading and should get along with it!
He has not been updating frequently due to his very bz schedule but he decieded today to take the time because tots have to be filtered to analyse past occurences and to plan for the future. Anyway his work is stacked around him like a warzone but he feels a small (very small) sense of achievement since he has FINALLY completed his EH presentation spanning 12 pages on microsoft, point form comic sans size 12. Yet there is still unfinished business ... in more ways than one!
Oh he may have decided to cancel his trip to Brussels this term due to financial constrains ... man is he broke (since when wasn't that true?) but anyway he has more time after summer term and maybe if he has money then he can go further in Europe?
Anyway he has more tots to pen down but he is very tired now and tmr he even has a meeting with his personal tutor ... he hopes its quick! He promises to write more soon ...
