Huh? CNY? Here? Really?

Finally a breather. HW's done, room's tidy, got a new book from Forbidden Planet. Gonna enjoy tonight with this book (i've never been able to find it in sgp so i'm pretty excited abt it! ;p) Met up with Uncle Kenny and family for dinner. Its good seeing family again especially during CNY. We ate Indian again ... he's got some weird obsession with Indian food. Stomach wasn't in great shape after but otherwise its been rather uneventful ... other than certain reoccurent troubles that plague me from time to time. I've got a bad feeling but I'll keep it away till tmr at least.

WOLS

I am WOLS. Really WOLS.
Working under pressure is unfortunately NOT my forte (which is why I prepare extensively for situations like exams).
How to be a banker like that? ;(
Time to apply for internships in road-sweeping ;(

Weekly Themes

Theme: Moderation

How nothing should be done or brought to the extremes. Aiming for excellence for example can be an admirable thing but the possibility exists that one will go over the edge to the utter exclusion of all else. The desire for extremity is pretty widespread. It brings with it a comforting feel for you know that you are THE most obedient, THE most pious, THE fastest, THE best in math etc. Yet to overdo anything is to lose sight of the wider picture - to quote a friend. I'm still trying to find the right balance but I think I'm closer today than my extremist past ;p.

Theme: GV101

It sucks big time. BIG TIME. Second Year in general sucks as compared to first year.

Theme: Travels

Only 3 weeks since school has begun but already I'm gian to travel! Actually this time round I wanna go to a place with wide vistas, gorgeous scenery, snowy mountains and friendly people; a little sick of the hustle of cities really.

Theme: Time

There's never bloody enough of it when u need it and just too much when u don't want it! Here's a TIME quote: There's time to do it right; but there's always time to do it over! ;p hoho

Newspapers

I read a lot of articles about how the age of print media, in particular newspapers, magazines and the like are facing dire times ahead. To a certain extent this is true. Newspapers I have read have lost so much of their integrity/ dignity that they now regularly give out freebies in the form of free cinema tickets, DVD, VCDs regularly to attain temporary spikes in sales. Rupert Murdoch owner of the giant media group News Corp spoke of the importance of the internet and how it will become a growing source of revenue for his company. Subscriptions for papers and to a lesser extent magazines fall year by year.
Yet consider the internet - the source of all opportunities and threats these days it seems - seraching for news online can be a hassle requiring you to sieve through loads of junk before you arrive. On dedicated news sites, the information is gathered and organized for you but somehow I dun find it as pleasurable as reading from an old-styled newspaper or magazine. Indeed my eyes start to water after 15 min of squinting at the screen. Plus it ain't portable like the old-fashioned print.
I'll be a sad day when print is abolished and we are left with naught but electronic media. (Not to mention the fact that my entire library, pain-stackingly collected would become obsolete!)
Hoho maybe I'm old-fashioned you say. Does anyone agree with me?

Everytime You Go Away

Hey! If we can solve any problem
Then why do we lose so many tears
Oh, and so you go again
When the leading man appears
Always the same thing
Can't you see, we've got everything
goin' on and on and on

Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you
Every time you go away you take a piece of me with you

In the 'oldies' mood ;p

It's In The Rain

Alone and empty again
Its a hollowness in the soul I've not felt for ages
A feeling I thought I'd completely shed
I don't belong, I don't feel at home
My mind's unfocused, my heart's displaced
I'm losing touch, losing ground

Who am I? Who are these people?
Why do we feel this way?

Every time
The rain comes down,
Close my eyes and listen.
I can hear the lonesome sound
Of the sky as it cries.

it's in the rain
ENYA

Is there a reason ...

Is there a reason
Why a broken dream can never fly?
Is there a reason
You believe and then you close your eyes?
Give me a reason
Why you hide away so much inside.
If there's a reason,
I don't know why

someone said goodbye

Super Trouper

Mamma Mia, here I go again!
My my, how can i resist you? ;p

Friday evening at Prince of Wales Theatre and the West End's favourite musical!!! We were the two youngest people there (save kids) I wager cos the rest of the audience were largely people who were alive when ABBA was still a band! But the places never lacked for atmosphere! The cast were marvellous ... especially the 3 older ladies, Dona, Rosie and Tanya. ("If you change your mind ... Take a chance on me!) They played the roles of the grown-up hippie to perfection - '60s costumes, girl flower-power madness and all! As I was told, I probably live in the wrong era. My music's retro, my band's ABBA and their wild, weird costumes just appeal so much to me! haha. Could really see how the grand-dads and mom's were enjoying themselves and I only hope I'll be as alive when I get older.
Oh and from an ABBA fanatic here's a little tit-bit, the band members:
Agnetha Faltskog
Bjorn Ulvaeus
Benny Anderson
Anni-Frid Lyngstad

Here's my favourite song of the nite:

Super trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won’t feel blue
Like I always do’cause somewhere in the crowd there’s you

I was sick and tired of everything
When I called you last night from glasgow
All I do is eat and sleep and sing
Wishing every show was the last show
(wishing every show was the last show)
So imagine I was glad to hear you’re coming
(glad to hear you’re coming)
Suddenly I feel all right
(and suddenly it’s gonna be)
And it’s gonna be so different
When I’m on the stage tonight

Pls Move On To The Next Blog ...

Its been a relatively uneventful start to the term. Not really a bad thing heh but still we all come back wishing for some excitement only to be returned (not unexpectedly) to Round II of the grind. Spent the last weekend doing some serious catching up on the uncompleted vacation HW ... only to be rudely awakened by the fact that I CAN'T DO HALF MY ASSIGNMENTS! Weather's really starting to chill and I'm quite reluctant to take to the bike now ... thankfully the internet's up and running at last (thanks moo, sammy and benny!) so no need to trudge all the way to schoo just to use ze net. Still a little disoriented since my return and really lacking on some much needed motivation ... but what to do? We must still slog on - the life of the student. K ... Sure I've bored u enuf with that little extract ... pls move on to the next more interesting blog blogged by a blogger with a more exciting life living in a less monotonous world. ;(

SIA Raffles Class - A Great Way to Fly!

Ze SIA Raffles Class
Imagine silky soft royal-hued comfort thrones, fully adjustable and configurable in at least 3 different directions. You can sit in comfort or you can lie ease in the wonderfully knowledge that you are being cared for by the best cabin staff in the world. For once my sleep was interrupted by the numbness and aches that we've come to associate with economy class flights. The stewards are gentlemen who address you by name, while the stewardesses attend to your every need, sometimes even before they arise. The meals are wonderous three course affairs, set in front of your highnesses. This only comes after they have marevellously laid your table with a splendid and generous table napkin. The stewards serve each course after they attentively note when you have finished with the last. Each course is intricately laid out on a large rectangular porcelain dish complete with 3 sets of knives, forks and other utensils. Indeed SIA Raffles Class takes care of you even after the flight. They issue Raffles Class passengers with a fast track ticket through customs.
I'm really in love with Raffles Class.

Deux Mille Cinq - Counting the Coins in My Wallet

Now I normally dun blog more than once in a day. But today ... I've got two reasons. Reason no. 1: I started thinking abt the past year. Cliched I know. Still its good to recap the year if for no other reason than to count your blessings and to make sure you dun screw up the next haha. Reason no. 2: I am shit-ass bored of doing internship applications. I have become an application-machine. Input: website material, phone-calls to HR dept, looking for contacts, researching the markets and firms; Output: Cover Letter and CV for so-and-so Internship 2006. Just not too longer ago I was remarking how I'd never become a person who churned out internship applications in desperation. hoho. Circumstances do change.
Anyway ... 2005.
The year two thousand and five was ... tempremental. Life has been a lightning bolt most times, but in a few cases it slows to a horrid crawl; Friendships have been somewhat stable and lasting, in a few cases though the results have surprised me; I've really enjoyed my numerous trips to Europe, I've paid for it in some ways with sweat and blood during the exams; For one friend it was a whirlwind of varying emotions - anxiety, anguish but more predominantly and importantly love, joy, hope - sometimes changing so fast I could not hope to keep up, sometimes I'd think I'd reach the target only to find the finishing-line has moved, but for now I count my blessings, what I have now I cherish dearly.
The year two thousand and five was ... abt the future. Thinking abt the future more specifically. The person I may become, the job I might land (think internships again!!!), the family I might have, the life I might lead. And I worry. Dun take this as a lamentation though. One has to worry for action to be induced.
The year two thousand and five was ... for learning abt people. I've always been a poorer judge of character than most. Perhaps the year has thought me more abt human behaviour and action. It seems though that these lessons especially come at a price.
The year two thousand and five ... has ended well and merry. ;p And that is sometimes all that matters. Thankfully am I for these blessings.

New Year Resolution 2006 (Belated)

New Year Resolution 2006: same as last year's. Hoho. Weren't you expecting something earth shaking? Met most of my goals last year. This time the only difference is to ENHANCE them.
